top in the 11th inning.  After two were out Austin Jackson ripped a
base-knock.  John Jaso stepped into the batter's box and he tripled.  The
Duluth-Superior batters went down meekly in the bottom of the 11th.  
 
The winning pitcher was Breslow(1-0) who allowed no runs in 3 innings. Mariano
Rivera earned the save, his 3rd.  Rafael Soriano(0-1) took the loss in
relief.

Justin Verlander took a no-hitter into the 7th inning and Paul Konerko touched
them all and had 3 RBI as the Franklin Kites defeated the Duluth-Superior
Dukes 5 to 3 at Dodger Stadium.
 
Verlander(2-0) was solid in the win.  He didn't give up much, just 2 hits and
4 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.  The right-handed Verlander lost a no-hitter
when Carlos Gonzalez singled with one out in the 7th inning.  Franklin
out-hit Duluth-Superior for the game, 11 hits to 4.  
 
Mariano Rivera recorded his 2nd save.  Zack Greinke(1-2) was the losing
pitcher.  He allowed 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Duluth-Superior wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning plating
one baserunner on 2 hits.  That early run support was all that Carpenter(2-0)
required.  Duluth-Superior out-hit Franklin for the game, 9 hits to 5.
 
Hiroki Kuroda(0-1) suffered the loss.  He was knocked around pretty good,

In a close game the Duluth-Superior Dukes got by the San Jose Scorpions by the
score of 6 to 4.
 
Duluth-Superior jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they
came up with 3 runs on 4 hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Miguel
Tejada who made the crowd happy when he lined a one-base hit plating two
runs.  San Jose threatened in the 9th but Duluth-Superior was able to put
down the rally.  
 
Chris Carpenter(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings
and allowing 2 runs. Jake Westbrook(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He

The San Jose Scorpions edged the Duluth-Superior Dukes at Dodger Stadium by
the score of 3 to 2.
 
San Jose came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning.  After an out was recorded,
Jamey Carroll was the sparkplug when he banged out a single.  Shin-Soo Choo
was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  Carlos Pena then smashed
a two-run homer.  San Jose had 6 hits for the game and Duluth-Superior had 3.
 
The winning pitcher was Vicente Padilla(1-0) who allowed 2 runs in 5 innings.
Padilla got help from Huston Street who was credited with his 1st save.
Cliff Lee(0-1) was the losing pitcher.  He surrendered just 6 hits and no
walks in 9 innings.

Young had a big evening at the plate.  He lined a single scoring a run in the
1st inning, doubled emptying the bases in the 6th inning and hit a one-base
hit bringing in two baserunners in the 8th inning.  San Jose was out-hit by
Duluth-Superior, 17 hits to 13.  
 
Jon Rauch(1-0) got the win allowing no runs in 2/3 of an inning. Darren
O'Day(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He was knocked around pretty good,
giving up 4 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.
