Chris Carpenter dominated striking out 10 Ashland batters at Dodger Stadium
where the Duluth-Superior Dukes beat the Ashland Penguins by the score of 8
to 1.

Carpenter(6-0) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 7 hits
and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings reducing his ERA from 2.35 to 2.14.
Duluth-Superior finished with 16 hits while Ashland ended up with 7.

Brad Penny(0-6) was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave up 13 hits
and 4 walks in 6 innings. The Duluth-Superior fans were thrilled by the
performance put forth by Carpenter, but it was clearly his strikeouts that
they enjoyed most. 'When he reached 10 strikeouts the fans showed him their
appreciation with a loud cheer.' Mike Swanson said following the game.
